Knuth's Earthshaking Announcement

2010-06-30 at the TeX Users Group meeting in San Francisco.

The first word The event was listed in the TeX User Group conference program as ... a special announcement by Dr. Knuth will close the conference on Wednesday, June 30.

The speculation What could the announcement be? Some of the best comments were posted by SlashDot forum readers. Some guesses were, "... Knuth migrated to Word 2010" and "In the new universe, trigonometry will be easier, and equations will always look good in print". Some posts compare Knuth to Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, and even porn stars.

The actuality At the end of the day on the last day of the conference Don Knuth did his best Steve Jobs impression to announce his latest version of TeX, called iTeX* (or, for ASCII purists, iTeX(BEL) ). To get the full effect, view the following video or read the transcript.
