[UK-TUG] Discussion of motion HV1

Hi

I thank Howard for his kind and thoughtful statement in support of his
motion.

Here's my summary. He likes the warm feeling of being a member of a
UK-based society of TeX users. He dislikes the hot feeling of our assets
burning a hole in the pocket. He says UK-TUG would be happier if it had
less money.

David has said that a new society suitable for Howard could be started
RIGHT AWAY. David says members of UK-TUG could be invited NOW to declare an
interest in being a member of such a club. (My emphasis.) It may not be so
easy.

Yesterday I asked the Chair for permission to start a new thread on "Social
and technical continuations of UK-TUG". My draft initial post described,
fairly I think, what had already been done in that area. It also invited
comments, feedback and questions from ordinary members.

The Chair ruled that my post was off-topic for the SGM, on the grounds that
it would distract the meeting and reduce the attendance. He would permit on
the morning of the final day, after the voting had ended. My request and
the Chair's response took place before Howard's statement in support of his
motion.

I ask the Chair to reconsider the decision, that my post on "Social and
technical continuations of UK-TUG" is off-topic during the voting period of
the SGM.

with kind regards

Jonathan
