[tlu] A user-intended tlmgr message ending up in the logs

Hello,

With the release of TL 2021 only a few days away, and after several weeks of pretest, I switched back to TL 2020 in TLU and selected <http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/texlive/tlnet> to get my TL 2020 setup updated one last time.

Doing so, I noticed in the Log window:

2021-03-30 05:43:42 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	start load https://mirrors.chevalier.io/CTAN/systems/texlive/tlnet/
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	TeX Live 2020 is frozen and will no longer
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	be routinely updated. This happens in preparation for a new release.
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	If you're willing to help with pretesting the new release, and we hope
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	you are, (when pretests are available), please read
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	https://tug.org/texlive/pretest.html.
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	Otherwise, just wait, and the new release will be ready in due time.
2021-03-30 05:43:43 +0000 Warning tlu_ipctask[11498]	finish load https://mirrors.chevalier.io/CTAN/systems/texlive/tlnet/

Unless the user has the Log window opened, this tlmgr message will, I think, get unseen and unnoticed.

This got me thinking: are the popup windows (I don't remember the proper English word, sorry) displayed by TLU its own, or do some originate from tlmgr?

The example coming to my mind requires user interaction (ie the popup telling there's an infrastructure update and requiring password entry), but I imagine there are other only displaying warnings and Proceed/Cancel buttons.

This does not mean I think this specific issue (ie tlpretest availability) needs to be taken care of. This is a fairly marginal one, which will only be relevant a few days per year. I was just wondering what was the interaction between the user-intended tlmgr messages and TLU, are they passed over automatically or do they mean Adam has programmed each and every one that appears in TLU manually?

Bruno
