Well, we never guaranteed or said that building from the source tar ball
produces everything that ends up in a bin/$ARCH directory, and it hasn't
been like this (asy etc) in the last years, but mostly.

Just to check/confirm, what about these links, do you have them
installed?
        rpdfcrop -> pdfcrop
        latexdef -> texdef
        allec -> allcm
        kpsepath -> kpsetool
        kpsexpand -> kpsetool
        mktexfmt -> fmtutil
        texhash -> mktexlsr
Well, I know you don't have the texhash, but I suspect the others are
missing, too?
