A minor comment that shouldn't play a big role in your plans.

For the Macintosh, it would be best to eliminate cmake and add the program to the regular build system. Since I create TeXShop, I have a rule that my Mac must always be in a plain vanilla state, with no system altering installations and no additions to the compile tools. I am able to compile asy and stick with these rules, but Cmake would be a step too far.
