How delete PS fonts from Windows\Fonts?

I came across the same error message this morning when I tried to
uninstall/reinstall the Type1 Symbol font (WinXP).
In my case the problem was that only the pfm file was present in
\windows\fonts, but not the pfb. A double click on the Symbol font icon
in the Fonts control panel would cause an error message (something line
"this is not a valid font file"), and trying to delete the font caused
the error message
"Error Deleting File or Folder. Cannot delete file: Cannot read from
the source file or disk".
After I copied the corresponding PFB file to \windows\fonts the symbol
font now displays properly. I haven't tried yet but I assume that I
would now be able to delete it without any trouble.

A different question is how the PFB file disappeared in the first place
...

Hope this helps.

Jochen
