I'm delighted with Berthold's answer. It is, pretty much, what has
become the standard advise: don't do it! ;-)) But what we perhaps need
to introduce is a more strongly -- but still politely -- worded text
that says repercussions from such a faulty install can lead to
font-related problems which are quite time-consuming to correct and
recover from/back out of/whatever ... good wording isn't exactly on
the tips of my fingertips right now ;-(

But it would be a good idea for us to try and come up with a
Win2000-specific tip sheet for Blenda to include ... probably with all
shipments, as you don't know if the platform is going to change
between the time of purchase and the next half-year even.

OK. I will forward Berthold's reply to Andreas and hope that it is the
final answer for him.

Blenda, if you could convey our thanks to Berthold for having provided
not only the standard advice -- don't do it ;-) -- but also some
additional information on some of the negative repercussions. And, if
you'd like, you could mention that we're mulling over the idea of
putting a Win2000-specific insert together which would really stress
the proper installation sequence and also list some of the
side-effects of an improper installation/upgrade.

So much is of course user sloppiness but if we can give them the
warning signs of a bad/improper install, then it's easier to simply
point them back at the info-sheet and say well, we warned ya ... A
side-effects list also lets us more quickly spot improper installs and
not send the poor user on a wild-goose chase -- which, quite frankly,
I think I did to Antoniuo. But as I said, so far he's been awfully
gracious about it all.

OK. Enough on that. I'll forward a reply to Antoniou, cc'd to this
list. And we'll move on from there.

My next big move has to of course be the bibtex thing. I have to log
onto my machine as `administrator' in order to check that I can indeed
open a new c:\yandy\bibtex folder, just to assure myself that the
instruction to make a new directory isn't a vain one. I was not able
to do it as a `user' -- having installed v.2.2 as `administrator'.

OK. But first -- some work-work to get out of the way today.

Ch.
