1. To confirm that `new' LaTeX has been installed on your machine:

   a. locate the dviwindo.ini file, which normally resides in
      c:\winnt.
Note that you need to activate `Details' in the `View'
menu, in order for Windows to display ALL files, not just
those with the more common extensions.
   b. in the .ini file, look for these two lines in the [Environment]
      portion of the file:

      LPLAIN=;C:\YANDY\TEXINPUT;C:\YANDY\TEX\BASE\\;C:\YANDY\TEX\LATEX209\\
      LATEX=C:\YANDY\TEXINPUT;C:\YANDY\TEX\BASE\\;C:\YANDY\TEX\LATEX2E\\

The LPLAIN line indicates that the 2.09 version has been
         installed.
The LATEX line indicates that the 2e version has been
         installed.

2. If the LATEX line is there, then 2e is available. To access 2e via
the TeX pull-down menu, look further in the dviwindo.ini file for
the [Applications] section. In there, you'll find a line (assigned
to some F(unction) key) that reads something like:

      LaTeX 2.09|F7=C:\YANDY\YANDYTEX\TEX.BAT +lplain @.tex

This corresponds to the LPLAIN line in the [Environment] portion of
   the .ini file.

3. To get a pull-down menu entry for LaTeX 2e, you need this line as
   well:

      LaTeX 2e|F8=C:\YANDY\YANDYTEX\TEX.BAT +latex @.tex

Or, you can edit that down to just read `LaTeX'.

That is, the above lines for the menu show the text that will
appear in the menu, then a vertical bar, then the F(unction) key
you assign to it (F8 in this case), then the path leading to the
executable file, and finally, what kinds of files this .exe file
   should work on.

====

_Normally_, the [Environment] entries result from the answers you give
during the installation process (when you're asked which version(s) of
LaTeX you want to install) AND the matching pull-down menu options are
also assigned/written in the [Applications] portion of the
dviwindo.ini file.

I _believe_ that reinstallation does NOT overwrite old versions of the
critical dviwindo.ini file (which is probably because it's out the
c:\yandy tree). So no matter how many times the system is uninstalled
and then re-installed, unless the dviwindo.ini file is updated (or
removed/renamed before starting up a new install) it will never be
updated with changes made to installation choices. It's to allow users
to retain their old preferences ... but it also means it never
reflects system changes made afterwards.

All of the lines in the .ini file are described in some detail in the
smaller manual which comes with v.2.2 -- pp.11-17. And if this is not
enough, there's even more stuff in the Technical Addendum,
pp.88-94. But the smaller manual has pretty much all the normal user
wants to know ... ;-) More, actually ... !!!

If editing the existing .ini file doesn't solve things, then try for a
totally clean re-install:

   a. rename the existing dviwindo.ini file to something else
       (dviwindo-old.ini or dviwindo-old2-1.ini)
   b. uninstall Y&YTeX
   c. install Y&YTeX from scratch (go ahead and choose both 2.09 and
2e -- and include all the add-on packages you have space for)
   d. compare your old .ini file with the new one that results from
      this new clean install

Work through the above points step by step, and then let us know if
this gets you unwedged. reply to techsupport at yandy.com instead
of just to me ;-)
