Missing fonts?

Steve, I just had a message from the Y&Y office, where someone always
tries to check to see what exactly a person has bought -- not just
TeX, but also the fonts ...

Geez, I hate to tell you this -- but you didn't _buy_ the CM fonts! So
you can't process or display files that want CM fonts. If you do want
the CM fonts, you'll need to get in touch with admin at yandy.com.

But ... the .log file you included when you tried processing
hello_MT.tex begins this way:

And line 3 up there indicates version 2.2.4, while your .ini file
indicates v.2.2.8 ...

Do all your .log files show 2.2.4?

I have to admit I don't really know if this is significant -- my .ini
file says I've got v.2.2.3 while my log files all show 2.2.2 ;-) And
it doesn't seem to have any effect on procesing files.

Can anyone else with v.2.2.8 confirm their log files show 2.2.4? If
yes, then this is just a `fact of life' and we go fish in another part
of the pond ;-)

That is, you tried to process the .tex file. Why that didn't work, I'm
not sure yet (see below, where I talk about double-checking that all
font file formats are present).

What I'd like you to do is open up DVIWINDO, and then, via Shift-Ins,
locate and double-click to display the original hello_MT.dvi file --
or has it already been overwritten by your having tried to process the
.tex file? If the date on the .dvi file is today's, then you'll need
to locate the one that's on the CD in the \demo folder.

In short, let's try to just see if your DVIWINDO will display existing
.dvi files.

As for the .ini file, I compared yours with mine and it doesn't _seem_
to be that much different -- other than OS-specific items.

Euh, `the menu activated in Explorer' to do which? The font install or
the Y&YTeX? The fonts are to be installed as described on p.5 of the
smaller manual, where it says that the .pfm files with the red-a icon
are dragged from the CD over to the \winnt\fonts folder.

Let's check on the MathTime fonts next. Can you do a C-drive-level
search to locate where all these files are, just to check that they
did all get installed -- let's choose, uh, ... mtex or mtmi, for
example. So, look for mtex.* and mtmi.* files. And make sure you've
got your Window set to display file extensions, and all hidden files
as well. Don't let Windows hide anything from your search!

Well, I'm not sure we're talking about a TeX problem per se, as these
hello_*.* files are demonstration files and so do work. It's more
likely a setup problem somewhere ...
