Regarding DarwinPorts, now MacPorts http://www.macports.org/, there
seems to be several partially mixed up TeX installation packages at http://www.macports.org/ports.php?by=category&substr=tex
:

- An old teTeX port (in category textproc) upon which a number of
other, also old, additional packages like XeTeX and xdvipdfmx are based.

- An up-to-date TeXLive port, broken into several pieces but
apparently not containing XeTeX.

That's a bit unfortunate, all the more so since using MacPorts for
installing TeX on the Mac would have allowed to get at the same time
up-to-date versions of related software like Ghostscript, something
which has become problematic for MacTeX now that i-Installer, which
was used to provide such up-to-date versions, has gone unsupported.
