I have been asked to comment on the suggestion that "as things stand
donating £8,000 to TUG would result in £680 going to support TeX projects".
That suggestion is wrong.
Although TUG has overheads, and a general donation to TUG might be used
to fund those overheads, TUG also has ring-fenced funds. According to
https://tug.org/tc/devfund/ <https://tug.org/tc/devfund/>
"The TeX Development Fund was created by the TeX Users Group in 2003,
under the aegis of the TUG Technical Council, to aid growth of
TeX-related technical projects."
According to
https://tug.org/tc/devfund/donate.html
<https://tug.org/tc/devfund/donate.html>
"The TeX Users Group welcomes all donations to the TeX Development Fund.
Development Fund accounting is separate from general TUG accounts;
donated monies will not be used for any other purpose."
This is therefore a non-issue.
