Yes, thas's pretty good. I've used it.

That was the mistake I was making. I have given panelwidth before
screensize and it works fine now. I am also using custom code for my
panel as you suggested in the manual.

 Here may be a useful idea:

pdfscreen has left and right panels but not top and bottom. Now, there may be certain cases where 
top and/or bottom may be useful, such as where you have to keep some text unchanged throughout.
Maybe, pdfscreen can be configured to act like frames in HTML where you can make frames on any sides.
Here we can use panels even if they remain fixed.
