update-tlmgr-r68903.sh from <https://tug.org/texlive/tlcritical/> runs OK indeed on the Mac:

% ./update-tlmgr-r68903.sh --noexec --target tmp-68903
Creating directory tmp-68903
Verifying archive integrity... 100% MD5 checksums are OK. All good.
Uncompressing TeX Live Manager Updater 100%

compared with the previous version of the script:

% ./update-tlmgr-r68866.sh --noexec --target tmp-68866
Creating directory tmp-68866
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing TeX Live Manager Updater 100% Extraction failed.
zsh: terminated ./update-tlmgr-r68866.sh --noexec --target tmp-68866

I was looking at <https://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/texlive/tlnet>, didn't see any new version appear, was wondering whether this was normal.

Then going back to the tl-makeself-from-tlnet script, which creates update-tlmr-r*.sh, I saw the comment

"(Both [update-tlmgr-r*.{sh,exe}] are created in the nightly cron from tl-update-tlcritical.)"

and looked for tlcritical, found it through Google at <https://tug.org/texlive/tlcritical/>.

I remember vaguely I used tlcritical in the past, but I don't remember why nor how. I looked for information on it in the texlive doc but couldn't find any (but I didn't look hard).
