I agree: as a teacher, I tend to choose cross-platform software for this reason.
Concerning Linux, I think it's the job of Linux distribututors, not TL, to
provide a working version o TW. But on windows and OS X, it is important that a
working version of TW be available from TL (or MacTeX).
