In light of this, please would you reconsider your opposition (to reverting
lineno in TeXLive). Frank in my opinion seems not to regard this as (in
your words)

a trivial error which can be resolved by loading a package earlier.

Of course, everything would be different if a fixed version of lineno
became available, which IF AVAILABLE NOW would be the preferred solution.
