your problem may well be simple, but since the overwhelming majority
of texhax readers _don't_ use (or even have available) a copy of
pctex, i suggest this is probably not the place to come for support.

somewhere in http://www.tex.ac.uk/faq i remark that people, who can
afford it, buy commercial distributions of tex because they value the
support the supplier offers.  why don't you approach the supplier? --
if it's a common problem with v4.2, you can be sure they'll be able to
answer your question quickly.
