[pstricks] PSTricks Digest, Vol 214, Issue 4

Thanks Herbert. I had suspected it might be something to do with my older
installation of XeTeX. I moved the current version of pst-text into the
directory of the book I am working on and there are now no compilation
errors - however, no outline text either!

It's not quite true (in my case at least) that it makes no sense to use an
older installation. I abandoned the 2020 version of XeTeX a couple of days
after installation since it messed up a periodical issue I was working on
(it placed the message 'ifpdf [2016/04/04 v3.0 Provides the ifpdf switch]'
at the head of the first page) - something I could eliminate if I commented
out some packages (e.g. pstricks itself, if I recall correctly), but that
obviously wouldn't be satisfactory long term.

More seriously, it totally messed up an edition I was working on (Latin and
English on facing pages), plastering the text with overfull blobs though
not reporting any compilation errors. In view of a publication deadline, I
had no choice but to revert to the 2013 installation of XeTeX, which works
fine for all that I require. It happens right now that it would be
convenient to be able to generate a single character in outline - but it's
not critical and I can work around this some other way.

Best wishes

John
