<div dir="ltr"><div>Thanks Herbert. I had suspected it might be something to do with my older installation of XeTeX. I moved the current version of pst-text into the directory of the book I am working on and there are now no compilation errors - however, no outline text either!</div><div><br></div><div>It's not quite true (in my case at least) that it makes no sense to use an older installation. I abandoned the 2020 version of XeTeX a couple of days after installation since it messed up a periodical issue I was working on (it placed the message 'ifpdf [2016/04/04 v3.0 Provides the ifpdf switch]' at the head of the first page) - something I could eliminate if I commented out some packages (e.g. pstricks itself, if I recall correctly), but that obviously wouldn't be satisfactory long term.</div><div><br></div><div>More seriously, it totally messed up an edition I was working on (Latin and English on facing pages), plastering the text with overfull blobs though not reporting any compilation errors. In view of a publication deadline, I had no choice but to revert to the 2013 installation of XeTeX, which works fine for all that I require. I think that there may be an issue with the special comments at the top.<br>
Seeing the log, as Herbert requested, will clear that up, but at least on my system<br>

Now if your code was being compiled with pdflatex instead of xelatex that might explain why it is not working. Again: seeing the log will clarify this, once and for all.<br>
