I encountered the same problem after upgrading ghostscript on Debian
lenny from version 8.62.dfsg.1-3.2lenny1 to 8.62.dfsg.1-3.2lenny4. After
downgrading again, it worked again.
With option crop=off it works in both cases, but crop=on leads to an
error with the more recent ghostscript version.
When calling pdfcrop (version 1.23) in a separate call on the
*-autopp.pdf file, it fails with
!pdfTeX error: pdftex (file ./auto-pst-pdf-test-croppon-autopp.pdf): PDF
inclusion: required page does not exist <1>
==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!
But I have no idea what is going on there.
