[pdftex] PdfTeX - letter é catcode def

Hi,

I would like to know why my TeX (not LaTeX) code don't work with PdfTeX.
It seams to work fine with XeTeX and LuaTeX.

My environement is TeXWorks setup with UTF-8 encoding.

the char é don't appear with PdfTeX. How to solve that using PdfTeX in
TeX mode (not LaTeX) ?
