You might find the following document:

of interest. It is an advanced example of what can be achieved
using \pdfannot's. The programming model is sufficiently unsual
that you will not be able to lift the underlying LaTeX code,
directly, but the example stands in that it shows why one
might want to produce documents for AR/Acrobat that cannot
be viewed with xpdf, gs., preview etc. .
