With standard setup you are including the CM fonts in
pk format (bitmap). It is better to include the
Type1 format of the CM fonts.
  Many TeX distributions provide options for this purpose, eg:
    -Pcmz -Pamz
    -Ppdf
    -Pwww
    ...
