[OS X TeX] MacTerminal + MacTeX + screen reader causes frequent crashes?

Thanks for all the advise on this forum.

I have been using TeXLive 2021 without any issues so far, albeit my project currently, even though large at 490 pages so far,
is LaTeX-wise trivial: a lot of math symbols and (infrequent) figures (eps, using inkscape to draw them).

Just a small observation: I noticed that 2020 compiles faster than 2021 (always using TeXShop frontend and PDFLaTeX engine): On my book project TeXLive 2021 stops to scratch its head at pages 455-456 and then proceeds. 2020 only stops for a hardly discernible fraction of a second.

Do others have such an observation? (I am using Mac Pro (Late 2013), 6 core).
