BTW, Karl,
In r1083 you have replaced « twoside » by « twocolumn ». Are you sure ?
The rest of the text seems to refer to a twoside document.
Also, in node \raggedbottom « twoside », not « twocolumn » is used. So I
am wondering whether replacing « twoside » by « twocolumn » was not a
mistake.
OK, certainly the \flushbottom command also has some impact on twocolumn
documents (I just don't know), but anyway « twoside » and « twocolumn »
are, AFAIK, two independent settings, you have 4 combinations : like
some oneside twocolumn, twoside onecolumn, oneside onecolumn, and
twoside twocolumn documents.
