I propose the folliowing rewording (I can do them in my next commit):

« Between an enumerator and its item » -> « Between an enumerator
label and number »
To me the item is the whole string « Chapter 12 »,  and you have
several such items in the enumeration  « Chapter 1 », « Chapter 2 »,
etc. …

Any objection ?
