BTW, why "in the preamble" in:

  ┌────
  │ Use [them][the pair @code{\makeatletter} and @code{\makeatother}] inside
  │ a @file{.tex} file, in the preamble,
  └────

AFAICS, and even if it is uncommon, these commands may be used in the
document body.
