[l2h] Conversion of - to \Gamma-- followup

I have now tried the same version of latex2html on my older Redhat 5.1
Linux system
 (tetex-latex-0.9-6,dvips(k) 5.78 kpathsea version 3.2,TeX (Web2C 7.2)
3.14159  ) and 
here everything works fine.
 I have installed the good output into
http://axion.physics.ubc.ca/q-fft/q-fft.html
since these notes are for students to actually read.
I have installed the bad version into 
http://axion.physics.ubc.ca/q-fft-bad/q-fft.html
This is the one where in superscripts and subscripts the minus sign gets
converted to a capital
gamma. Also, certain equation arrays get a dark black border on the
right and bottom, 
which makes the equations look terrible. This bad version uses
tetex-latex-1.0.6-4mdk on a Mandrake 6.1 system.dvips(k) 5.86
kpathsea version 3.3.1, TeX (Web2C 7.31) 3.14159
