George, can you see what happens when you remove the "exit 1" in the 
following piece of texexec?

since most users run fp/gw/te-tex the defaults normally are sufficient an 
no ini file is needed

} else {
     print
       "               warning : $IniPath not found, try 'texexec 
--verbose'\n";
     exit 1;
}
