It is indeed somewhat of a surprise to find that configuration files, in particular for dvips
(config.ps) and pdftex (pdftex.cfg), have disappeared. A compromise solution would be to make a
backup of existing files that are to be overwritten, and to give them a probably unique
extension, e.g. fptex_bak.
