That is what I did, and I am not seeing any problems. PK files are made.
Are you sure you had not changed mktexpk.exe and gsftopk.exe with some
earlier windvi-0.66-pre?  ?  (pre5 was the first I tried on my laptop.)
I really don't see how putting back files one had not changed can do
anything useful!
