This version seemed to kill off my PS preview. Unsure what goes 
wrong, but the error remark from gs (as seen on exit) is:

Unrecoverable error: stackunderflow in eq
Operand stack:
    72
gsdll_execute_end returns -17

Standalone gs and gsview are both OK.

Apart from problems in 256-color displays, seems to work fine. 
Please, would you consider supporting
	\special{ps: .7 .7 .7 setrgbcolor}
as well?

Works OK, it seems, but it uses a bitmap at windvi's pk resolution 
setting, correct? (got some funny results with a multi-res printer).

I don't care much for gif and bmp, but tiff, jpg and png would be 
great (cf. pdftex).

Just some things I can come up with right away:

- Better log behaviour (like Erik said)
- Better help behaviour
  (This also triggers "can't find previous instance")

- Keeping the display center when zooming in/out
- A way to measure distances
- Spread (two pages) view
- "Recent files" menu list
- A "hand" tool for the left mouse button cf. Acrobat
