in the last weeks I have a recurrent problem: dvipdfmx will not recognize fonts in pdftex.map and
will exit with a fatal error:

dvipdfmx:warning: Could not locate a virtual/physical font for TFM "xydash10".
dvipdfmx:warning: >> This font is mapped to a physical font "/hom/yannis/texmf-static/fonts/pfb/XYDASH10".
dvipdfmx:warning: >> Please check if kpathsea library can find this font: /hom/yannis/texmf-static/fonts/pfb/XYDASH10
dvipdfmx:fatal: Cannot proceed without .vf or "physical" font for PDF output...

No output PDF file written.

The font mentioned is listed as follows in the pdftex.map file:

xydash10 XYDASH10 </hom/yannis/texmf-static/fonts/pfb/XYDASH10.PFB

I checked, the font is there, and kpsewhich sees it:

kpsewhich XYDASH10.PFB

I'm using the following version of dvipdfmx:

This is dvipdfmx Version 20210318 by the DVIPDFMx project team,
modified for TeX Live,
an extended version of dvipdfm-0.13.2c developed by Mark A. Wicks.

When I remove the font from the list in pdftex.map, then some other font is missing. Everything worked fine a few weeks ago…

Thanks in advance for any help,
