Why would LaTeX "hope it's an EPS file" ?  Does \includegrapics not 
allow the inclusion of other common graphics formats (e.g., JPEG) ?  If 
so, is there an /a priori/ reason why LaTeX would assume encapsulated 
Postscript rather than any other supported format ?
