[texhax] Verbatim Input

    I want to put the contents of a `foo.tex'
    in to a single token list ___ without ___
    typesetting that `foo.tex'.

    Please tell me a trick!

if i understand the question correctly, this is exactly
what is done by the package "verbatim".

i use this frequently for tests:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{verbatim}

\begin{document}

material being tested

\vspace{3\baselineskip}
\verbatiminput{\jobname.tex}
\end{document}

this has the effect of typesetting the test material,
followed by the verbatim listing of the file.
