LaTeX's advantages in productivity, for me, are due to its ability to be customised. The first half of this article discusses small macros written to ease document production, with some examples of how I use macros to save time and effort. Then, I briefly cover a selection of packages that provide a whole heap of functionality that other people have kindly implemented.
