I sure hate saying this but ... this is backwards. It's clearly stated
that the the order has to be

          FONTS, then Y&YTEX

in all the documentation, from the handy card to the pages and pages
of documentation ... ;-((( I'm really sorry to say this so ... uh
... baldly. But it won't work when installed this way.

`Splash screen' ... you mean the install window that pops up? Insert
the CD and via My Computer, double-click on the D-drive. That'll
invoke the install window.

But that's not going to help right now.

The fonts have to be loaded FIRST in order for Y&YTeX to even know
they're around. ALWAYS.

So yes,

Do it the right way around and it'll work.

Not really. Or at least, not that much. We've had people on this list
do the above without any real hitches. I think potential problems
arise when a font is used by both Y&YTeX and some other
application. But it's still gotta be done.

So, uninstall Y&YTeX:

My Computer > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

Now, let's get the documentation in here. Have your smaller Y&YTeX
manual open to section 2.2 on p.5, and then move on to 2.3.

That should provide you with all the info you need on installing the
fonts FIRST.

Now for Y&YTeX itself. This is section 2.4 of the smaller manual. I'd
recommend choosing the custom install, if only because it allows you
to see what's actually being installed and where. Just keep clicking
`yes' on the default choices (unless you really do need a different
path or location or whatever), but do pay attention as you go through.

Then add the LaTeX component -- and do add ALL the optional
packages. There's no reason to be chintzy on disc space ;-)

After that's been done, however, I'd suggest NOT installing the CTAN
component, as we know there's a bug in the install routine at this
point. If there's anything from the CTAN collection you need, add it
in later, manually.

Then do a few tests. Make sure you're testing files for which you've
purchased fonts ;-)

And let us know how it all unfolds.

The above is the standard advice we give ... it would be nice to hear
that either (a) it works ;-) or (b) we need to refine our `standard
advice' ;-))

So ... take a deep breath, and proceed.
