[XeTeX] consternation and confusion - xelatex is generating a blank page in the middle of my document

That would be a missing font - You can get Kozuka Mincho Pro R by 
installing the trial version of Photoshop and telling it to install all 
its fonts during setup. Changing the font also changes the spacing of 
the text, so it would probably lead to the blank page disappearing.
