[XeTeX] Polyglossia problem

What happens if: (a) one switches back to plain babel (if one does not need
bidi or non-occidental encodings)? Or (b) one uses the fancyheadings
package?
I've tried option (a), with Spanish, Latin, English and French with no
problems.

Is François Charette reachable?
