[XeTeX] Commenting

Hi

I added the yellow comment using Acrobat 7 Standard. The brown comment was added with the much cheaper PDF Converter, but will I think show up in any normal (free or otherwise) PDF reader (but not Sumatra, I notice - unless there is an option there that I haven't investigated).

I doubt if your version of (La)TeX is deliberately prohibiting the addition of comments in the PDFs that it creates - if it is, you can always move over to another one that doesn't (e.g. XeTeX's). It's more likely that you are using a popular version of Acrobat that doesn't come with all the options enabled (but you can easily try that out by attempting to add comments to a non-TeX-produced PDF).

Best

John

Your first example is exactly what I mean. The thing is that using Acrobat reader I cannot add these yellow comments as you have added. Nor did I managed to add my own comments to the document you sent. What version of Acrobat are you using? Do you have Acrobat writer, or any other professional version, or you are using the regular freeware version?

  Thanks, Yaniv

I don't think I understand the problem. I attach a PDF page comment2.pdf to which I have just added (1) a comment created in Adobe Acrobat and (2) a comment created in PDF Converter. The original PDF file was created in XeTeX directly as always happens (i.e. there was no intervention with e.g. Adobe Distiller to create the PDF).

If you need to add comments to a TeX file as you are going along, it's easy enough in plain TeX to create an insert category that does this (see the file query.PDF attached), but I don't know about that sort of thing in LaTeX.

      Howdy,

When you open a pdf file in Acrobat, you can see at the properties of the document whether is has commenting permissions. Files created using Latex are not allowed to be commented. If they were, Acrobat would have enabled an additional tool which can be used in order to add annotations to the pdf file. This is usually a very useful option for reviewing articles. My question is how can I allow the commenting option while creating a pdf file using Latex. Is there any package that can be used?

If this exists, then in a package by Heiko Oberdiek or Scott
            Pakin ... vpe?

What do you mean by enabling the commenting tool? Does it have to be
        enabled?

seems to indicate that, if something needs to be done, it's on the
Adobe Reader side, not the XeLaTeX side.

Also, which version of Adobe Reader are you using? IIRC the ability to
add comments has only been added in the latest versions.
