[XeTeX] LaTeX Font Warning: Encoding `OT1' has changed to `U' for symbol font

After researching a bit, it looks as if things would be solved by  
adding the line:

\usepackage[utf]{fontenc}

'cept that the file utfenc.def seems to not exist --- anyone have any  
pointers on what would be necessary to create such?
