This works fine and is one way to ensure that such typefaces will 
output on older equipment --- see the Apple thank you in the previous 
issue of TUGboat for an example of this.

For those who're curious, the cut-off Zapfino characters in my article 
in the latest TUGboat were caused by an intentional mangling of the 
crop / media boxes in the .pdf by the printer which wasn't caught in 
bluelines.
