I think the original querent wanted a way to do it directly in LaTeX.

A good TeX-ish way of drawing 3d images is to use "povray". I call
it TeX-ish because:
 - You write a (matematical) specification for the figure
 - You run povray specifying the type of output

"povray" is currently not under a free license but this is in the
process of change.
