i would like to add the following to Raj Singh's suggestion.

1.  save the figure created with xfig with a .fig extension.
 this would come in handy if you want to make changes to the figure later.


2.  then as suggested export as a .eps figure.

3. you can also export the figure as a figure with a.pdf extension.  
this is useful if you run pdflatex on the .tex file to obtain a .pdf document finally.
also xpdf or acrobat reader can be used  without having use ghostview. 
however, pdflatex  does not correctly render psfrag replacements.
