It appears that it is used to produce tables with a specified width, and it adjusts the column width based on requirement. What I actually need is to tell LaTeX to break rows across pages so that the text in one column flows into the next page even if a row has not ended. My table has two columns with one column having very little text and the other having a lot of text in each row. So, if the row does not break across pages, most of the pages will contain quite a bit of blank space. Thanks -- V. I shall let you know of the outcome some time later. Thank you all for the suggestions and my best regards. M. I did locate the commands but am not sure where in the page they go in. * how do you set the title and abstract as one column in a two column article? * how do you set one column space aside for figures and tables in a two column article? I did read the instructions, but it is not very clear to me as to how to implement them without examples. One of the respondents wondered why people don\'t use LaTeX instead of kile. I am new to all of this and kile was suggested to me. It helps as I don\'t have to remember a multitude of commands. I hope the group will be patient with by \"teething troubles\".
