Dear TeX admirers / users,

It gives my great pleasure in announcing the launch of the CD version of
the 4-volume English-Kannada dictionary of the Mysore University. The big
point is that this was achieved using the full power of TeX and friends
via the KannadaLaTeX available on sarovar.org.

The printed version dictionay has about 6500 pages, 1,07,000 head words,
nearly 1650 figures. The CD version is built on TeX and the end product is
a PDF and so it can be viewed on any platform which supports PDF. The main
packages used are the Hyperref and PDFScreen packages which give all the
required hyperlinking and cross referencing capabilities. It also includes
audio support for pronunciation of English words; this has been achieved
through Festival Speech Synthesis programme which is also a free software.

A sample of this dictionary is available (kandict_y.pdf) (without audio
component) at
     http://sarovar.org/projects/kannadatex/
The CD has been published by Prism Books, Bangalore and is available with
them for Rs. 250.

More about it in a later mail.

Long Live TeX!

Best.................yoga
