Thanks a lot for a nice code. It worked but I would prefer to use "align" 
for simplicity.

Regarding thesis, I am aware that such a class is there in CTAN / 
other foreign universities etc. But I wanted to have a format which many 
list users (especially who belongs to IIT/IISc) are using. It's very 
difficult to chhose one from many.
And I'm surprised to note that many IIT's don't have a standard LaTeX
thesis format. And they are producing lots of PhD's written using LaTeX.

So, if someone belongs to IITX(!KGP) could supply me format it will be 
highly appreciated.
