[Tugindia] Problem with dvips?

Today I faced/noticed a peculiar problem when generating a ps file
using dvips. Before I go on my system details are as follows:

 OS : Debian Sarge
 TeX :  tetex 2.0.2
 dvips(k) : 5.92b

I have a file which contains Kannada text which I have compiled,
generated ps using dvips and printed the same. Even a couple 
of books were printed thus.

But today, I notice that dvips generates ps files which contain fonts
not used by me or intended. But, pdflatex and dvipdfm generates 
the pdf files properly.

Another thing that surprises me is that an almost identical setup in
my office produces proper output.

Can somebody suggest what might have gone wrong or where to look at? 
I have looked at all the places that are in the texmf tree and could not find
 anything :-( Even reinstalled the packages to no effect.
