By using leqno package, it is possible. Suppose u want 18pt indent in mathequation, just use command 
 
\mathindent18pt
 
Without using leqno package, this command is not working.

Yes I want typeset mathematical equation in one alignment in between 
normal text, which also have tab alignments. It's mathematical question 
& answer book. All the questions in one alignment and equations in one 
alignment. Is it possible ??
