Hi,
I thought that a self contained topic that doesn't
extend beyond one session would be better. What would be ideal? A
crash course in Latex or a session explaining the
philosophy behind latex.
Should we discuss some of the problems that confront the
future of latex? I think the most central issue
is how to adapt to the change in environment where everyone
is opting for Unicode encoding. As of now, as far as I know,
latex doesn't support Unicode. Omega(Lambda) does, but the
amount of accesible documentation on omega is very little. What about
the availability of fonts? If someone could talk about these things
it will be nice. Is it possible to use opentype fonts in latex? As
I understand it, this is supposed to be a superset of both type1 and
truetype standards. What is their encoding? Unicode?
As far as I know none of the driver programmes like
xdvi or dvips seem to suppose these new fonts. Omega has Odvips, but
what
fonts does it support? Does it support opentype fonts? The issue
Unicode encoding
is also intimately connected to latex(lambda?) documents in indic
languages.
Switching over to Unicode will make it easier to produce documents in
Indic
languages.
If somebody from the industry who is addressing these issues can talk
about these, it will be nice. Linux Lingam could be one person.
