[Tugindia] pdftex vs dvips ps2pdf

Hi all,

Is there any quality difference in the final pdf file if it is 
generated using latex followed by dvips and finally ps2pdf
when compared to using pdflatex directly. I personally find
the pdf files generated using pdftex to be sharper. I havn't 
compared the printed versions, so am not sure of the final print
quality. If there is no difference, what would have been the 
motivation to write the pdflatex program?
